Band Profile
Damn Crows is a band created by Ben Hanson, which recently got the name Damn Crows after years of thinking what name to have. The first reincarnation of the band arose in 2005 when Ben Hanson starting writing lyrics from times in his life based around relationships, moments in life and sometimes just utter randomness, some of these ended up being mainstream singles by big name bands.
It wasn’t until 2008 that any music was created by Ben and it admittedly wasn’t very good, and annoyingly no music created could implement the lyrics that had been written over the years. Ben
continues to write lyrics even today as time goes by and things shift in his life, but creating a song to fit them has always been a challenge.
Due to this, Ben started developing instrumentals and a song called ‘The Right Vibe’ was created. However life took over and it wasn’t until 2011 when the inspiration to try again arose in the purchase of an iPad.
“I found it inspiring how Damon Albarn could create an album all by himself just on a little
iPad”, Ben referring to the 2010 (2011 physical) Gorillaz album ‘The Fall’ created entirely on an iPad. This resulted in a few projects and before you knew it Ben had created some more instrumentals.
Debenhams
After this Ben teamed up with a friend Simon Caddy to produce what would the debut single ‘Debenhams’. Debenhams was a basic single to say the least, had a catchy rhythm and the easiest to remember lyrics ever. The single also contained quite a selection of B-Sides including some proudly made instrumentals including ‘Chill Anthem’ and a song created plainly due to a bet ‘The Harmonica Song’, just to prove that a song with a Harmonica at lead could be made. The single was released and available on iTunes on the 17th April 2011 as a free single and is still available now. The single was also available through the RKUK Media website and included the B-Sides and a Digital Booklet. In early 2011 the single was extended with follow up single ‘African Flute of Debenhams’.
Second Single
After releasing Debenhams, Damn Crows decided that the second single would be a double A Side of instrumentals, but would feature some usual surprises in the B-Sides. The single ‘Hystorical Atmos / The River Voice’ was released on 1st July and was the first single to be completely instrumental. The singles and b-sides all shared a more digital feel to them and dark sounded using synth effects as the main instrument.
The bonus track was a bit of random banta, the cover of Combined Harvester was added as a free extra.
Third Single
The third single was later added to the Debenhams single, the single African Flute of Debenhams is now available.
Forth Single
January 2013 it was announced the forth single from Damn Crows would be called The Red Guitar and was released on the 7th January 2013.
Unknown
Damn Crows officially unveiled the debut album ‘Unknown’ on the 25th February 2013, a week after an exclusive first hearing was held. Other than featuring all released singles, Unknown contained over 9 new songs marking its 14 track listing.
