In a very unexpected move, or, expected, depending on how you look at things, Google has done another move against Apple’s walled garden. After a pretty huge campaign by Google which many argue led to Apple adopting RCS Messaging support.
But, I would argue, this is much more profound. How many times have you tried sending Files simply between iOS and Android, it’s frustrating, right? Sure, there’s many popular sharing apps that work between the two, but, like with the RCS argument, it’s much better and easier if it’s native. This makes it native.
So, how does it work? Well, you enable AirDrop on iOS for Everyone, and QuickShare for Everyone then send.

Watch it in action below; Video and images are provided from Android Authority.
“We accomplished this through our own implementation. Our implementation was thoroughly vetted by our own privacy and security teams, and we also engaged a third party security firm to pentest the solution.” Google statement.
So, what does this mean? Well, if this becomes a fully Android thing, this is huge. This eliminates yet another hurdle between Android and iOS users. But, it’s also because of that why I, like many, think Apple could block this.
But, there are some caveats, quite big ones really, biggest being it only currently works on a Pixel 10 series of devices. And, the obvious, it could stop working tomorrow. On the other hand, does Apple really want to push the E.U. to do another power grab and force it to be fully opened. Personally, I hate the E.U. getting involved with tech companies, but, in this case it would be good for both users.
